KOF XII (12) 

Your thoughts? I think it looks amazing... SNK looks to be making this game grander in comparision to SF IV... but sadly unoticed by alot of gamers...

Yeah this looks absolutely amazing.  I read somewhere that everything has been hand drawn.  Simply awesome.

I'm glad that SNK is finally overhauling the graphics, like the fans have been asking for for several years.  As I understand it, the characters were first modeled in 3D to make sure the animation was smooth.  Then they flattened them to 2D silhouettes and drew in the details of each frame by hand.  It looks great.

Somehow, though, I doubt I'll ever get the chance to play it.

Well, following recent SNKP trends, this'll end up on a console pretty soon after it comes out, so, you'll most likely get to play it. Personally, I've been following this off and on since it was announced, since this game should be closing the Sacred Treasures/Ash story arc, and things have been pointing to Orochi finally coming back, and with graphics like that... yeah, good stuff. Unfortunately, though, SNKP has really changed up the gameplay for the KoF games from '03 up, and, I don't like it in the least. I don't particuarly mind the tag system, per se, but it opens up some pretty game-breaking stuff. It also doesn't help much that the controls for '03 and XI felt really... loose to me. It's like those games constantly WANT to see me putting in specials or something, it drives me nuts. Lin(or 'The Homeless Ninja' as I have dubbed him) is also sorely missed from the roster, especially since he keeps popping up here and there in the games, and I'm pretty sure he isn't going t be in this game either. Gah. Then again, Duck King showed up in XI, so, I guess unexpected things do happen. Should be pointed out that Yamazaki was also dropped from XI, though, so, those unexpected things aren't always good.

My only concern is that this game might be over crowded by the hype of Street Fighter IV and will become a diamond in the rough... which is what happens to alot of great SNK fighters like Real Bout Special and Garou.

I tend to agree with you, most US gamers seem to pass over SNKP's stuff, regardless of how good the games may be. I have a hard time getting people to play MotW with me, but when they see SFIII:TS, HSFII, MvC2, and SFA3 I have a hard time convincing them NOT to play one of those. Drives me nuts, especially since EVERYONE wants to play MvC2. Luckily, SNKP has chosen to make this game extremely visually pleasing, so, hopefully people will actually take notice of this game.

I have honestly given thought to systematically 'misplacing' certain titles in my collection, but, in the end I just decided that people want to play what they want to play, and if I don't have it, someone else probably does, and they'll just go play their copy. That aside, have you played KoF 98 Ultimate Battle by chance?

I own the Dreamcast Port. I would like to get the Ultimate Match but for the fact that I don't own a PS2 ;_;. I do know that it added the boss team like Krauser, Mr. Big, and Geese from KOF 96' added new stages and multiplayer.

I had the DC port too, not sure where it ended up sadly................that's the downside of sharing consoles.

Interestingly enough, I have the DC version of KoF '99 "the dream match". I don't play it that much anymore, as I feel the PS2's controller is superior to the DCs when it comes to the D-Pad. I recently got Skies of Arcadia for the DC, though, so I'll probably get around to playing with it some more. I tend to play more KoF '01 than '98/99, though, especially since it has that puzzle mode in it, which I find slightly more than moderately entertaining. Kind of reminds me how much I wish Pocket Fighter had been released on the DC...

I had heard that Krauser was put into '98:UM, it's actually why I'm considering getting it; Krauser is easily one of my favorite SNK bosses. The only ones I can think of I like more are Mukai, Krizalid, and Orochi. That said, popular rumor also has it that the O-Man is supposed to be in UM as well.

Yeah 98 rocked but we ended up playing Millenium a lot more after a while
