very nice review Lance. I have to say say the arcade is very fun to play, but man do i suck at it!
And I love the new intro to death. it's just perfect. "Could this be...an omen??!" |

Unusual racing game indeed, but Sega proves once again that they are masters of arcade machines in general, good style on the machine and nice little features that make it attractive.
And yes, the new intro is so awesome I wish it was at the beginning of every part of the episode. :D Arr? Yarr! |

As a fan of sega racers I'd have to say very good, I've only heard of the colencovision review of turbo so the arcade version is unknown to me.
I doubt I'll ever see that arcade machine, but I did see an 8 player version of outrunners in the arcades before, it was a F'n monster. Check out www.gamerau.com |

I tried this out on Mame after watching this episode. I crashed. A lot. Hard game !!! I like the way the scenery just changes with no warning.. no gentle transitions here, just a sudden switch. A charming game though and I'll definitely have another session with it. www.mathowlett.com

Awesome review Lance, but it got me curious too since I actually recognised the game structure but never played it on the arcade or the two home versions you speak of, instead I remember it from the c64. Are you sure those are the 2 only home versions released? Because I'm sure that game is on the c64, but maybe it's a different name or a rip off, not sure. Although SEGA did release a lot of games on the c64. Man now I need to dig out my c64 and find that tape! It was one of my favorite games too, but it was pretty hard. |

Great stuff, Lance! I enjoyed this episode quite a bit. I like your arcade episodes.
I've never played this game before, but it really does look like it's a lot of fun. If I ever come across one of those machines, I'll be stopping to try it out! -Pixel Dan

Yeah I was kind of surprised by that when I did my searches, all that came up was the colecovision and intellivision version. I thought I better be save by saying in the review that it"only made the jump to 2 home consoles" because to be honest I wasn't sure about home pc's. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was released for the commodore 64.

Yeah I love how it just changes scenary with out any notification at all, except when you immediatley crash because where your car was positioned in the previous scene has now become a wall. My Sister in Laws husband isn't in to retro games at all but he has to play turbo every time he visits, he too didn't care for it much until he sat and played it. It's one of those games where challenging is actually fun. In the words of Kurtwood Smith AKA Clarence Boddicker, Bitches Leave! |

Hmmm I have to dig it up (in the basement somewhere) to be sure but I think the c64 game I'm thinking off is called 'Death Race 64'. So a rip off after all, not a SEGA game. It was release in 1989. If I find it I'll try to get some footage of it, the arcade version seems a lot better lol. |
