Introduction

Hi everyone! I've been viewing the videos on here for a while now and loving everyone of them, and i finaly decided to get more involved and make an account, better late then never right? This seems like a really fun community to hang out with and not to big. And best of all full of retro gaming fans!

I've also been planning on making a show for a while now and i've decided to push it through and just do it. I have no filming experience or editting skills so don't expect to much haha. But once it's done i'll be sure to post a link. I think it will be pretty interesting. In the meanwhile i hope to make some fun in the forums here with you guys.

A bit about myself. I'm 24 years old, and live in the Netherlands. I love retro gaming and practicly grew up on them since my parents liked them too. My c64 is probbably my all time favorate system since i have so many font memories of it. Although later the NES took it's place mostly i still found myself crawling back to the c64 from time to time. Also had some more consoles over time but those two have i enjoyed most. Of the newer systems i only have a Wii and a DS, the other stuff doesn' t interest me that much (yet?).

I'm a bit confused about the forum however. When i signed up i was asked for an account name and a display name, bu now my account name is displayed and my display name is now where to be seen? Can those be switched? Going to make my video's under the name 'HalfBlindGamer'. If not then it' s no big deal really.

Well hope we' ll have some fun discussions soon!

Re: Introduction

Welcome to the Forums!

I'm glad you're enjoying the site and I look forward to seeing what you come up with too. Will your show focus on C64 and Nes games or something else entirely?

I'm off to watch the Lakers :)  (on TV)

enjoy your stay and keep us up to date on your show.

Thanks for those welcoming words! And let me tell you that i love your show, been watching since about the 3rd episode when i stubbled apon it when someone (forgot who) mentioned it in a video. I've never been a real hand held gamer (my DS is actually my first hand held gaming device, well apart from my phone i guess...) and it's great to see some games that i missed because of this. And some really look like fun.

What i will do in my show. Well the NES has already been done a lot and it would be hard to make anything original with that with already so many great shows on the net showing it off. And there is the fact that i once felt pitty for someone and pretty much gave away my whole NES collection, ouch did i regret that!

Now the c64 might make an appearance sometime, but first i'm going to focus on a whole other system. Maybe it's best that i first explain that in my show i want to dig through what is considdered to be total crap and see if i can find something decent in there. So in my show (Crap Digging Investigations) i will dive into some crappy stuff hoping to find the Golden Turd. So where else to begin then by the letter's of the show? Yes the CD-i! Dug mine out and it's getting so much hate that i think it deserves an objective look on what it actualy is, since most who yell about how crappy it is never even tried it out. And yes off course i will also go over the famous Nintendo lisenced games at some point... The show will mostly be serious i think with a few laughs now and then if i can find something original, but i want to really bring some light to games that are pretty decent but that everyone still hates just because it seems to be common believe or something. Might do other systems later on and also show some fun c64 stuff later on but the main focus for now is the CD-i. It took me almost a week to figure out how to capture the thing! Doesn' t seem to have a pure PAL video output and the sound is still not right (only get one channel).

Well now that the concept's and someone has already some suggestions or tips, they're more then welcome! This weekend i'll go get some gear and start things up for the first show (where i introduce the monstrosaty).

Re: Introduction

CDI: Crap Digging Investigation -- nice.  I agree there are not enough videos about the CD-i.  I always wanted one of those.  Welcome to the forums and thanks for watching!  We can give feedback and advice as you go.  We're no professionals ourselves but we'll do our best.  Thanks again and keep writing in these threads.  I've been to the Netherlands once -- Amsterdam is one fun city -- beautiful too.  I couldn't bring myself to actually go into the Anne Frank house, but that pancake place next door is damn good.

Keep in touch!  I look forward to seeing your stuff.

Re: Introduction

Thanks, glad you like the idea :)

And i say your vids look pretty profesional to me. There are companies with bigger budget making a real mess of their productions and your work is enjoyable to watch, well written en performed. Some shows (MTV junk comes to mind) can really annoy me with how the shot it and they have a lot of budget and are on TV no less. There is a gameshow here on TV (GameKings) which i think also does a poor job for a games show, it's just a mess compared to your show which is really set up nice and plays like a real show.

And Amsterdam is a nice looking place indeed. I've only been there a couple of times though, an never been to that pancake place, missed that one! Neither did i go to the Anne Frank house. What held you back from going inside? I live in Rotterdam myself, not as nice looking as Amsterdam since most of our nice buildings got blown up :( so it's really modern and well just doesn't look nice unless you like art i guess.

Re: Introduction

I avoided the Anne Frank house because I knew it would definitley ruin my day -- too damn sad.  But pancakes!  Pancakes make me happy.  I'm Johnny Pancakes!  I have to say, when you find yourself walking in and out of the various De Rokerij around the city, I was quite thankful that the whole town is shaped like a wagon wheel.  Makes it pretty hard to get lost on the way back to the hostel.
